ASTORIA — Take a free behind-the-scenes look at the local film industry next month, when Kaufman Astoria Studios lets New Yorkers go inside production trailers and dressing rooms to celebrate the city's movie-making scene.
"New York on Location" will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 21 at the studios' outdoor film lot on 36th Street and streets nearby, organizers said.
The studio is currently home to shows like "Orange is the New Black," "Nurse Jackie" and "Sesame Street," according to organizers.
The street fair, hosted by Museum of the Moving Image, the Theatrical Teamsters Local 817 and Kaufman Astoria Studios, will offer attendees the chance to tour more than 20 trailers and trucks from local film productions.
Visitors will get an inside look at things like wardrobes, hair and makeup and special effects, organizers said, and will also get to try grub provided by movie catering trucks.
Those who work in the industry will also be on hand to answer questions, as will stunt professionals who will perform moves like "high falls, street fighting, stunt driving and more," according to the event description.
Attendance is free and the Museum of the Moving Image will also be offering free admission all day so visitors can check out its "Behind the Screen" exhibit, which presents a detailed look inside the film-making process.
This is the second time "New York on Location," has been held, according to a rep for the museum, with the first taking place in 2007.
In March, the city designated the neighborhood around the museum and Kaufman Astoria Studios an official arts district.
