QUEENS — A man shot his father to death Tuesday night as he sat in a car in South Jamaica just steps from the suspect's home, police said.
Anthony Guyton, 37, used a semi-automatic Hi-Point 9 mm handgun to shoot his father, Langley Bruce, 55, who was sitting in the driver's seat of his Chevy Impala at the intersection of 143rd Street and 119th Avenue about 10:30 p.m., according to the NYPD.
Plain-clothes officers who were nearby in an unmarked NYPD car raced over when they heard the gunshot and demanded Guyton drop his gun before arresting him, police said.
Bruce, who lived in Astoria, was taken to Jamaica Hospital and pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.
Guyton, who lives near the shooting scene, was charged with second-degree murder and weapons possession, police said.
“The defendant is accused of patricide — taking the life of his own father," Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said in a statement Wednesday afternoon. "The 55-year-old victim was seated in his vehicle when the defendant allegedly fired a single shot to the man’s chest. The alleged actions of the defendant are totally incomprehensible.”
Guyton faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted. He was awaiting arraignment in Queens Criminal Court Wednesday afternoon.
Guyton has been arrested eight times previously, including once on June 6 when he was charged with criminal mischief and unlawful possession of marijuana, according to police and court records. He's due back in court for the June incident on Sept. 9.
An NYPD spokesman could not provide further information about his other arrests.
