QUEENS — Police arrested two men and seized five dirt bikes and ATVs after a group of bikers wreaked havoc on a major Queens highway — playing a cat-and-mouse game with responding officers, ditching some of their rides and even driving the wrong way, police said.
Police said they received several calls about a large group of motorcyclists driving recklessly along the Van Wyck Expressway, near Hillside Avenue, on Saturday, Aug. 30, around 5 p.m.
Authorities said that one of them, Omid Bedi, 30, of Flushing, entered the expressway’s northbound lanes via the exit ramp, and drove his four-wheeled blue Yamaha against traffic. Officers were able to arrest him as other drivers slowed to avoid striking Bedi's ATV, police said.
Several motorcyclists were also driving recklessly in the southbound lanes, authorities said.
Officers slowed traffic to stop the bikers, who then lifted their bikes over the expressway median and fled, heading north on the Van Wyck Expressway.
They left two ATVs and one dirt bike behind, the NYPD said.
One rider, Equilla Ross, 39, of Mount Vernon, was arrested after he continued to ride on his red Honda motorcycle past the stopped cars, police said.
Bedi was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal nuisance, reckless driving, unregistered motorcycle and improper license violation.
Ross faces criminal nuisance charges, police said.
Their vehicles were confiscated.
