QUEENS — A man and woman conned their way into a 78-year-old man's home by posing as ConEd workers and stole $70,000 while distracting him with a bogus electricity test, police said.

The suspects, who can be seen on surveillance footage released by police, told the victim at his 74th Avenue home that they needed to check his fuse box on Sept. 10, about 12:15 p.m., according to the NYPD.

Police did not release a cross street for the victim's home, but it falls within the 104th Precinct, which covers Maspeth, Middle Village and Ridgewood.

The first suspect, a man about 40 years old, went with the victim down to his basement and plugged in a light and instructed him to wait for the light to change color, police said.

Meanwhile, the second suspect, a woman about the same age, pilfered $70,000 from the victim's dresser, police said.

The two then fled the scene.

The first suspect was about 5-foot-8 and approximately 160 pounds, police said.

Police didn't say if they dressed as ConEd workers.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
