COLUMBUS CIRCLE — A man arrested for sucker-punching another man earlier this year randomly punched a 50-year-old woman in the face as she sat on a bench on the D train platform at Columbus Circle, police said.
The victim, from The Bronx, was on the northbound platform around 1:50 a.m. on April 29 when Alexis Quinones, 23, punched her in the face, a complaint filed with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office said.
The woman, who was left with redness, swelling and pain on the left side of her face, defended herself by hitting and pushing Quinones’ head to protect herself, the NYPD said.
Quinones was arrested and charged with attempted assault and harassment, the DA’s office said.
A judge set his bail at $1,000, the DA’s office said.
He was released on Wednesday and was expected to appear in court on July 8, city Department of Correction and court records show.
Back on Jan. 25, Quinones was inside 441 Lenox Ave. around 5:25 p.m. when he punched a man in the back of the head as the man turned away from him, the DA’s office said.
It was not clear whether Quinones knew the victim or what motivated the attack.
Quinones was arrested and charged with two counts of assault, one count of attempted assault and one count of harassment for that attack, the DA’s office said.
He was released without bail after that incident and was expected to appear in court for those charges on May 18.
An attorney for Quinones did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday.
